Why intelligent wellness

Injuries rarely come out of nowhere.

The warning signs — broken sleep, a dip in mood, a spiking workload, a quiet niggle — usually show up days before the breakdown. But they live in paper forms, group chats and gut feel. By the time someone connects the dots, the athlete is already on the sideline — and a preventable strain has become weeks of lost availability.

2×+

higher injury risk

is linked to training-load spikes beyond the safe acute:chronic range — the exact signal Pillar watches for, automatically.

Daily

signals, constant change

Sleep, stress and load shift every single day. Weekly spreadsheets and end-of-season reviews simply can't keep up.

1

place, not five

Every athlete and every signal in one ranked view — instead of scattered apps, screenshots and someone's memory.

Intelligent wellness watches every signal, every day — and tells you exactly who to check on before a warning becomes an injury.

See it in action

The cost of finding out late

Every injury you head off is availability you keep.

A single soft-tissue injury can cost weeks of training and competition — and the ones that recur usually started as a load spike or a run of poor wellness no one joined up. Catch those early and lost weeks become kept ones. Here's what that looks like for a squad your size.

  • Fewer recurrences from rushed return-to-play
  • Spot training-load spikes before they become strains
  • Less guesswork, fewer "why didn't we see it" reviews

Reactive monitoring vs. intelligent wellness

The difference between finding out and knowing first.

The old way

  • Surveys, spreadsheets and group-chat updates, all in different places
  • Pain only surfaces once it's bad enough to speak up about
  • Training load tracked by feel — or not at all
  • You find out an athlete is struggling when they can't train
  • Return-to-play decisions made from memory

The Pillar way

  • Every check-in, survey and session in one shared, scoped view
  • Private daily check-ins surface niggles before they escalate
  • Automatic acute:chronic load-spike alerts on every athlete
  • A ranked "Needs Attention" list, updated the moment things trend wrong
  • Staged, audit-logged return-to-play protocols

Security & safeguarding

Built for the people whose health data you hold.

Pillar carries sensitive wellness and medical information — often for minors. Protection isn't a checkbox bolted on later; it's wired into how the platform is built.

Tenant data isolation

Every record is scoped to your organization at the query layer — cross-org access is blocked, not just hidden.

Role-based access

Owner, staff and view-only roles — with medical detail gated behind a dedicated permission, not handed to everyone.

Full audit trail

Clearance changes, edits, staff removals and admin support sessions are all logged — with who did what, and when.

Consent & retention

Athlete consent is captured and versioned, and expired data is purged automatically on a schedule.

Encrypted in transit

All traffic is served over TLS, with brute-force protection rate-limiting login, password-reset and API endpoints.

Your data, exportable

One-click medical & wellness PDF exports mean an athlete's record is portable — never locked in.

FERPA-, HIPAA- and GDPR-aware by design. Formal certifications are on our roadmap — happy to walk your IT and safeguarding leads through exactly where we are today.

Questions, answered

No. Pillar is a web app that installs to the home screen on any phone — no app store, no friction. Athletes just open a link and check in.

Pillar installs straight from your browser — no app store needed, about 15 seconds:

On iPhone (Safari)

  1. Tap the Share icon (the square with an up arrow).
  2. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add — Pillar now opens full-screen like a native app.

On Android (Chrome)

  1. Tap the menu in the top-right.
  2. Tap Install app (or Add to Home screen).
  3. Confirm, and Pillar lands on your home screen.
Every organization is fully isolated, and role-based access means coaches see wellness while only medical staff see clinical detail. Athletes accept a privacy policy on first login, you set a data-retention period that auto-purges old records, and owners can export or permanently delete an athlete's data on request — all built to support FERPA, HIPAA and GDPR obligations, with sensitive actions written to an audit log.
The acute:chronic workload ratio compares this week's training load to a 4-week average. Spikes above ~1.5 are strongly linked to injury — Pillar tracks it automatically and warns you.

Every athlete's daily signals roll into one early-warning risk score — no spreadsheets to read:

  • Wellness — a 20-second daily check-in (sleep, energy, morale, stress) scored 0–100.
  • Pain & load — weekly pain surveys, urgent priority reports, and training load (session RPE × minutes).
  • ACWR — this week's load vs a 4-week average; spikes past ~1.5 are the classic injury danger zone.
  • Compliance & injuries — missed check-ins and active injuries.

The key difference: each reading is scored against that athlete's own normal (a personal baseline), not a one-size-fits-all cut-off — so the athlete whose pain is usually 1 and is now a 4 gets flagged, while the one who always runs hot doesn't bury you in false alarms.

Today they're mostly subjective — self-reported wellness, pain and perceived exertion — and that's deliberate. Sports-science research consistently finds athlete-reported wellness is one of the most sensitive early signals of how someone is coping with training load, often flagging fatigue before objective markers do.

It's also fast, free and works on any phone with no hardware. We use validated questionnaire templates (Hooper Index, readiness, post-session) so the numbers are meaningful, and trend every athlete against their own baseline so a real change stands out from normal day-to-day noise.

Wearable integrations are in active development. Whoop, Oura, Apple Health and others are coming, to layer objective recovery data — HRV, resting heart rate, sleep — on top of the daily check-ins.

The aim isn't to replace self-report but to combine the two: subjective wellness captures how an athlete feels, objective recovery confirms how their body is actually responding — together they make a developing problem much harder to miss.

Yes. Build custom check-ins or start from validated templates like the Hooper Index. Answers are auto-scored and trended right alongside your other metrics.
